Funny Records on Kilimanjaro

THIS CRACKS ME UP!

Carrie and I sat here just laughing our heads off... well, maybe not literally, but you know the expresssion...

Here are our suggestions for the list...

How about "first snail to get to Kilimanjaro" - Getting to the top of Kili might be an issue for a snail...

or

"First person to read Green Eggs and Ham in less than one breath per page at the top of Kilimanjaro"

Or "First three-legged race up Kilimanjaro"...

Thanks for the funny posting!

eBaying Kilimanjaro

So this is kind of cool! In our first 24 hours, we received over 200 visitors to our eBay auction. At this rate, over 2,000 people will visit our auction. I plan to have 100x that amount.

We'll see what happens!

Antelope meets tree

I sort of feel like this antelope today. I've been moving along about a million miles an hour, getting prepped for Kilimanjaro, avoiding the lions of finances and my own mind telling me that it's okay to take today off, and getting jazzed and motivated for our intense workout and diet regimen (which begins April 1 - if not sooner). But, I didn't get a lot of sleep over the weekend due to a corporate convention. As a result, I've come down with something that has me feeling yicky.

I'm sure I'll feel better after getting some sleep, but for now, I feel like the antelope!

Keep an eye out for news on our auction! II's coming soon!

Do not believe in Giraffes

I do not believe in giraffes...

This was just too wierd to be excluded from the series on giraffes. I found it funny and amusing... not really laugh out loud funny, but totally worth watching once.

Hope you agree!

Oh, stay tuned too... next week, we have some huge news to share with you about the sponsorship of the trip!

If you want to know about it, make sure to put your email address on the mailing list.

So this might wrap up the series on giraffes temporarily, but not to worry. The areas around Kilimanjaro afford plenty of opportunity for giraffe viewing, and fortunately for us, the videos are available! We have plenty more giraffe material to share with you in the time between now and when we leave for Tanzania.

If you're not already on the newsletter, be sure to jump on the list, so that we can let you know about our next series of videos...

I'll give you a hint... they swing from the trees with the greatest of ease, swinging around like a flying trapeze... those hairy lower life forms we call "..." The next video is just dang funny. Hope you'll join the list so you can see it!

Or, add us to your newsreader if you want too... Just click the buttons - we have those links up now too!

Feeding giraffes

So this video isn't from the wild, but rather, is directly from a wild game park somewhere in the UK.

That giraffe is seriously tame! Now, there's probably something wrong with this, and the environmentalists will probably dislike even having to see this video, as it may encourage unknowing individuals to try and approach animals like this in the wild.

However, this is the giraffe series, and while I don't expect to be feeding wild giraffes, I do hope to have the oportunity to see one, or a few, in their natural state.

How do you feed a giraffe? Through the sunroof of course!

The Mouth of a Giraffe

This is what I would consider an up close and personal shot of a giraffe's mouth.

Why someone took this video of a giraffe eating, is beyond me, but it fits in with the giraffe series!

These animals have ALWAYS fascinated me, and I am looking forward to seeing one actually in the wild, and not just in pictures or in the zoo!

So, without further ado, a giraffe's mouth.

Giraffes running across the African plain

When we go to Africa, we will be going on safari. And while on Safari, we will see giraffes. Or, at least, we hope to see giraffes on the African plain. I have no real experience with giraffes outside of the zoo, so it would really be amazing.

Over the next few days, I'll be sharing some more great giraffe videos!

Changing the blog layout

For those of you who have been reading the blog the past few days, BE READY!

A change is in the wind!

Very shortly, you will see a whole new layout on the blog, which will make the Blog look exactly like the rest of the web site.

Just giving you a heads up!

Flights

I just spent over an hour looking for flights. You can't really book directly from your hometown to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), so you have to look in stages. For us, these stages consisted of from New York to Amsterdam, from Washington DC to Amsterdam, from New York to London, from Washington DC to London, from London to Amsterdam, and from Amsterdam to Kilimanjaro. Holy cow are flights expensive! I guess it doesn't really help that we're flying from the middle of June to the end of July -- peak travel season. But, I really thought our flights would be about half what they were (at least to/from Amsterdam). The cheapest combination I found was $1800.00 per person! Plus we already bought flights out to the east coast for over $220 per person. Over $2,000 just in flight costs. I wasn't expecting it to be over $1500 per person, so that came as a bit of a shock. I did put in a call to our leader's travel agent to see what prices she can come up with, but I'm a pretty good flight hunter, and I honestly don't know if she will be able to do any better. I certainly hope she can though.

Crazy video of African elephants fighting

We sincerely hope that on our trip, we will see some Elephants in their natural habitat. We may have to extend our trip and go on a safari in the Serengeti, in order to make this happen... or we may go to one of the smaller, lesser known parks nearby.

However, check out this video we found of elephants vying for position. Totally crazy!
